Traveling while in Chicago

There are many different ways to travel while in Chicago. You can take a taxi, which of course is more expensive. There is a bus or Chicago Transit Authority, The LOOP, walking (which depending on where I am I like to do) Doesn't matter how frigid it is I always like to walk down Michigan Avenue. There is something magical about it!
You can also take the train into the city, or from the airport into many different destinations. When I was a teenager, my grandma and I used to take the train during the holidays from out by her house into Neiman Marcus, and then walk around Michigan Avenue and look at all the Christmas Lights. I looked forward to it every year. It was one of my favorite things to do with my grandma and my aunt would go with us too!

  1. I liked your comments about traveling in Chicago. I was born in Oak Park, Illinois. However, we left Chicago when I was about 4 years old. I remember taking the train to Las Angelis. My first visit back to Chicago was in November 1971 when I was in the Navy and on Liberty. I stayed with my (maternal) aunt. I stayed with her in the house where my dad grew up. The next time that I was back to Chicago was in 1989 after my dad passed away. I went with my brother to visit my aunt. I returned in 1996 for a Conference in downtown Chicago. I remember State Street and the bridges over a river in downtown Chicago. What I remember the most about Chicago is the food! Everything tastes very distinct. Three is not the homogenized flavors of fast food, but rather district tastes and aromas. The food in Chicago was just great. The little neighborhood restaurants were the best.

  2. I have to share a somewhat funny and a little embarrasing story about traveling around in Chicago. A co-worker and I were in Chicago and one of our store managers had picked us up from our hotel and drove us around to the other stores we had in the area. We finished up at her store and she told us to just go down to the corner and hail a taxi to get us back to the hotel. My co-worker was from Hawaii and I am from Vegas, neither of us had ever hailed a cab in our life and had to ask her how? She thought we were pretty crazy, but hey in Vegas we just call the cab company and they pick you up. We finally figured it out and made it back to our hotel.
